Part of the 2010 Charlotte Shakespeare Festival
Ken Akers (Angelo) has loved every minute of his 5-year association with The Charlotte Shakespeare Festival. A writer and video producer, Ken also serves as Collaborative Arts Theatre’s Board President. He'll be happy to explain how you can help Shakespeare thrive in Charlotte.
Nick Asa (Duke Solinus) Nick is from Valle Crucis, NC, and graduated from ASU with a double major in Math and Computer Science. Working various IT jobs brought him to Charlotte, where he has lived since 1998. Some of his favorite roles on local area stages have been Hamlet, Will Parker in Oklahoma!, Mortimer in Arsenic and Old Lace, and the kajillion or so characters he played in Greater Tuna and A Tuna Christmas.
Joe Copley (Director) is the co-founder and managing director of Collaborative Arts. He is an award-winning actor and director, most recently appearing in The Woman in Black at Theatre Charlotte and Julius Caesar at last year's festival, and directing its production of Twelfth Night. "Thanks to the cast and crew for working so hard and creating so much fun!"
Kirk Dickens (Second Merchant) is immensely happy to be working on his first production with Collaborative Arts. He would like to thank Melissa and her Monkeys for brightening his life and you for supporting the arts.
Adam Ewer (Antipholus of Syracuse) is delighted to come from NYC to spend the summer in Charlotte with this wonderful troupe. Previous Shakespeare credits include Orlando in As You Like It, Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing, and Hotspur in Henry IV In August, he will appear as Cassio in The Charlotte Shakespeare Festival’s production of Othello.
Joanna Gerdy (Aemelia) is so happy to play outside with some of her very best friends this summer. She remembers the good 'ole days of Chickspeare, Bare Bones, Children's Theatre and Off Tryon fondly, where she was immersed in the Charlotte theatre scene in so many ways as actor and director. Favorites: Olivia in Twelfth Night, Mark Antony in Julius Caesar, Weird Sister in Macbeth, Queen Elizabeth in Richard III. Happy directing memories: Stop Kiss, Shakespeare's R&J, Henry IV, Comedy of Errors, Twelfth Night.... Joanna is also a playwright and full time theatre director/teacher at Davidson Day School.
Corlis Hayes (Dr. Pinch) is delighted to return to The Green for her fifth season with The Charlotte Shakespeare Festival. She was last seen in Julius Caesar as "the homeless soothsayer."
Andrea King (Dromio of Syracuse) Andrea is a teacher, a friend, a kid at heart, a sweet eater, a muggle, a mii, a Dixie Carter fan, a certified nut, a known suspect, a library user, and a long-time twin.
Meghan Lowther (Adriana) is so excited to be doing Shakespeare again and this time playing a woman. Meghan was last seen as Benvolio in The Charlotte Shakespeare Festival’s Romeo and Juliet. When she's not doing Shakespeare you can catch her doing sketch comedy with Robot Johnson: Good humor by bad people. She'd like to thank Joe and Elise for believing in her.
Chaz Pofahl (Antipholus of Ephesus) is back again for his sixth show with The Charlotte Shakespeare Festival. You might also have seen him around town acting at various theatres and working as a Teaching Artist at the Children's Theatre of Charlotte. Thanks to the interns for all their hard work!
Trista (Rothe) Bremer (Lighting Designer) is excited to be spending her third season with The Charlotte Shakespeare Festival. She received degrees from Greensboro College and Florida State. Trista is a freelance Lighting Designer in the Charlotte area. Thanks for supporting local theatre!
Peter Smeal (AEgeon) -- despite all logic, justice and plain sense--works around children all day. This fact goes far in explaining his tastes in books, clothing and humor as well as providing a crucial insight in understanding his approach to interpersonal relationships. He is a tinkerer, a dabbler, a dawdler, an enabler, a champion sleeper and is working hard to add fabulist to that set. As none of these pay particularly well, please give him money.
Sarah Provencal (Stage Manager) is happy to combine her love of theatre and nature for the second year in a row. If money allows, she will begin working towards her Masters in Directing in the fall. Thank you to the audience for showing up and Dave for everything.
Elise Wilkinson (Luciana) is the co-founder as well as Artistic and Executive Director of The Charlotte Shakespeare Festival. She has produced, directed or acted in more than 40 plays regionally and in NYC. Last season, she directed Julius Caesar and appeared as Viola in Twelfth Night. Thank you to the cast, crew, volunteers, donors and audience – you are the ones who make this festival possible.
Shon Wilson (Dromio of Ephesus) No stranger to Charlotte theatre, Shon Wilson was recently seen in My First Time at the Actor’s Theatre and The Drama Club at the Children’s Theatre. Before that she appeared as Calpurnia in The Charlotte Shakespeare Festival’s Julius Caesar, Helena in Epic Arts’ A Midsummer Night’s Musical and Juliet, Ophelia, and Lady Macbeth as a member of the NC Shakespeare Festival’s touring company. She thanks God, her family and her friends for her very blessed life!
Greta Zandstra (Courtezan) returns for her fourth season of The Charlotte Shakespeare Festival and this makes show number six. She is also very lucky to have done all six of those shows alongside her husband, Chaz Pofahl, along with thirteen others!
